A dog found wandering along a major highway saved nine sleeping children from an electrical fire. Capone raised the alarm two minutes before the smoke alarm, giving everyone time to escape. Now he’s up for an American Humane Hero Dog Award.
Capone was a year old when trucker Isaac Fuller spotted him on the roadside. Isaac’s wife, Angela, and their children doted on the Min Pin, Chihuahua, and whippet mix.
He’s been with the family for over a year, and on March 15, Capone started barking madly.
“Capone – shut up! You’re going to wake the baby,” Angela admonished.
Angela called him, but he wouldn’t come. She always calls him, so she knew something was wrong. She followed the barking into the kitchen and noticed the microwave’s plug on fire.
Angela abandoned a little fire to get her family out. She grabbed Atreyu, 5 months old, and Mordecai, 20 months, and called for Landon, 12 yrs old, to rescue her other kids. As most of them left, the smoke detector went off, but flames were already licking the ceiling.
Alexander, 10, Jadzia, 9, Ronan, 7, Inara, 6, Mezoti, 5, and Khaleesi, 3, escaped with Capone and his three sons.
Capone saved the family from a fire. They stayed in a hotel until they found apartments for everyone. They received clothing and household items.
Capone was so unhappy by being separated from his family that he didn’t eat for three days. When he was reunited with them, he wouldn’t leave Alexander’s side during the day.
“He’s pretty special,” Angela said. “He loves his family.”
The Fullmers have bought a five-bedroom home with a large, fenced-in yard for Capone and should relocate by the end of the month.
Angela nominated Capone for a Hero Dog Award. But regardless of whether or not he wins, he’s already a winner at the Fullmer house, and his prize is his family.
“I’m glad we found him on the highway,” Angela stated. “I believe it was supposed to happen.”
