Before dawn on April 23, 2015, an unknown box arrived at the San Jose Animal Care Center. The box had a horrible smell, and when the staff peeled back the tape they found a very matted and scared dog.
“When we opened the box we saw what far too many animals go through neglect.”
On the dog’s left shoulder, there was a wound that was still open and was oozing blood. Her coat was so tangled with fleas, dirt, and feces that she couldn’t move on her own.
“We immediately began the journey to right the wrongs that had been done to this dog and ensure she has a happy life ahead of her,” the staff wrote on YouTube.
As soon as they saw her, they named her “Pandora” in honor of the Greek myth. After a much-needed grooming session to get rid of her matted hair and itchy fleas, Pandora’s cute little face was finally shown.
She looked so cute! She was kept at the shelter for a few days to see if anyone came looking for her. No one came looking for Pandora, so she stayed at the shelter.
From there, Pandora was spayed, her umbilical hernia was fixed, and her tumors were removed. Her playful and silly side came out, and the dog began to trust again.
Because Pandora’s biopsy results came back, the vet was able to see that one of her cysts turned out to be a malignant tumor.
Even though you might think the story of Pandora is over, it doesn’t end that way…
