This is Shelby Hennick, a 21-year-old veterinary technician living in California.
Hennick’s grandmother, Dona, was taken to the hospital because she had a bad reaction to one of the medicines she was taking.
Hennick told BuzzFeed News that her mother suggested bringing Dona’s dog, Patsy, in for a visit.”I just happened to be passing my grandma’s house when she called, so of course, I was gonna do it,” Hennick said.
In general, pets are not permitted in hospitals due to the risk of infection to patients, although service animals are permitted.
Hennick disguised Patsy as a baby and snuck her into the hospital.
Because the staff at the hospital knew who they were, they just “walked by and waved at them” prior to entering Dona’s room, Hennick said.
“Patsy was quiet the whole time and actually kept licking my arm,” she added.
Hennick stated that her grandma initially believed she had brought her sister’s baby into the house. Dona was taken aback when she placed Patsy on her lap.
Hennick stated that her grandma acquired Patsy over 13 years ago when she was only a few weeks old and required bottle feeding. Hennick stated that the two have built a “pretty strong bond.”
“Patsy kept crying and couldn’t get close enough,” she said.
She tweeted about it and expressed surprise that it garnered so much attention.
“I was really happy we were able to pull it off, and I’m sure it made her day,” Hennick said. She further stated that Dona was improving and was discharged from the hospital.
