A dog named Keumsook came from a litter of five puppies. Unlike her siblings, she was incredibly weak and small. She was the runt, and her momma dog wasn’t interested in caring for her.
Without her momma dog, Keumsook would have not survived. Thanks to Grandma, their owner and only family, she did. She had a mother figure and she got the care she needed to pull through.
Grandma was more than happy, willing, able, and determined to look after the little puppy. She gave it some milk every two hours. But because the runt was unable to suckle on its own, she used a medicine dropper, sometimes her finger, too, to administer nutrition.
As Keumsook grew bigger, her condition became more prominent. She wasn’t normal because her front legs bent inwards. She had to balance herself with her hind legs alone and she fell to the ground most of the time. Still, she did not stop and taught herself how to walk with only two legs.
The elderly woman took her puppy to the vet to see what can be done about its condition. She hoped for some good news but she heard the worst. The puppy won’t live long, that’s what the doctor said.
Devastated, Grandma brought her puppy back home and never returned. But when members of an animal protection and welfare group offered their help, she reconsidered. She let them take Keumsook to a much bigger animal hospital in the city.
The specialist ordered various exams and laboratory tests to know more about Keumsook’s health. Surprisingly, everything came back fine. She was in great shape and even healthier than an average dog.
Keumsook wasn’t supposed to live long, but she proved people wrong. She fought for her life and she succeeded. All she needed was someone who believes in her and she was so grateful that Grandma stayed by her side all the time.
