Most dogs would give birth to an average of five to six puppies. That’s why owners are often shocked when their pets deliver more than 10. Regardless, it’s amazing to help a dog through labor and see how much love they give to their offspring.
When a pit bull named Kaya went to her foster parents, they didn’t know she was pregnant. She was really thin, and her ribs were showing. Her foster parents thought they were overfeeding her when her belly started getting big. They immediately booked her for a medical checkup, and that was when they found out she was pregnant.
When Kaya neared the end of her pregnancy, she started getting more tired. She also preferred rolling on her backside to ease any body pain. Then when she was near her labor period, she started staying in the same area her foster parents prepared for her.
The foster parents expected that the birthing process would only last 12 hours. However, after two days, Kaya still hadn’t completed giving birth. When the number of puppies reached 15, the parents thought it was the last one. That was until the 16th, which was also the last puppy, was born.
The parents were overjoyed to see so many healthy puppies were born. They took time to help Kaya with feeding all of them. It got to the point where the parents took sleeping shifts just so they could care for all the puppies.
Kaya was a great mom to all the 16 puppies. It took a lot of effort on her part; she was always tired. Yet despite that, she still managed to play with them and help them learn a few things. Kaya would run with her puppies around the backyard when they got a little bit bigger.
When all the puppies became 9 weeks old, they got sent to individual homes. The foster parents also decided to keep Kaya for good. They admitted that caring for Kaya and her puppies was challenging but, at the same time, was totally worth it.
