A dog named Moe from the East Bay, San Francisco is being called a hero by police in Pittsburg.
They were at home one night when Moe and his owner, Joe Newman, were there, which is near the Pittsburg Marina and sits on a canal. In the early hours of the morning, Moe started barking, which woke up Joe.
He went to find out what was making the dog so stressed. Joe found out that an older man had fallen into the marina. When the man had the accident, it seems that he was walking in the early morning.
“I came downstairs and got a flashlight and I heard the guy talking. He was halfway in the water sitting on the rocks,” Joe told KPIX San Francisco. “I said ‘What’s going on?’ and he said he needed help.”
Joe went inside and quickly put on his clothes. He was able to get the man out of the water. He took the man inside and called 911 for help. The man was not drowning, but he was stuck in the water and feared he would freeze to death.
The man was taken to the hospital by ambulance. A Facebook post from the Pittsburg Police Department also thanked the dog for his bravery.
“Thanks to our friend and hero… whose barking awoke his owner; and when his owner went to see what all the fuss was about, saw the man struggling in the water. The man was able to be helped from the water and was extremely grateful to his new barking buddy!” they wrote.
