A nonprofit animal welfare group named Dog Rescue Shelter Mladenovac received a call one day about a puppy abandoned in an open field. The organization quickly sent a two-man team to the location on the city’s outskirts. The volunteers were expected to rescue a single pup, but what they found was a litter of five puppies.
Surprise
When the rescuers arrived, they saw the originally-reported puppy walking near a dirt road. When the young pooch noticed the two men, the small animal quickly ran to the thick bushes nearby. The rescuers were prepared to crawl inside to retrieve the pup, but before they even got close, several puppies emerged and started running toward them.
The rescuers were pleasantly surprised. They all looked so adorable. But both men were appalled that someone could abandon the pups on their own.
The puppies were barely two months old and could hardly fend for themselves. They were open to attacks from wild animals and exposed to the cold Serbian weather. They didn’t have access to nutrients as well.
One of the rescuers immediately prepared some food and water for the pups. While the little creatures were eating, the kind men searched the area, trying to find out if there were more puppies or if their mom was around.
Homeless no more
After having their fill, the puppies were taken to the group’s vehicle so they could be brought to the rescue group’s facility. But before they left, the men tried to look again if there were other dogs. There were none. It seems that the litter was separated from its mother and was abandoned in the area.
Back at the shelter, the dogs were checked by a vet. They were given medication and vitamins. The staff will take care of them until they can find good homes to adopt the litter. The little pups can now look forward to a comfortable and secure future.
