A tip was given to Sharon Norton, an animal control officer in Lincoln County, Mississippi, about a case of animal abuse. She drove to the area on a quiet stretch of highway and was devastated by what she saw when she got there.
She saw a dog who had been left alone for what looked like at least a week but had not moved from the spot. He seemed to be waiting for his owner to come back and get him.
The dog was sitting on an armchair that, like the TV set, looked like it had been left behind. Even though he had been there for a long time, the dog didn’t move. It looked like he was waiting for his owner to come back. This, however, had not happened.
Norton felt bad for the dog as soon as she saw him. She told The Dodo that he was “skin and bones.” She finally got close enough to him so she could give him something to eat.
He seemed to be thankful right away for this act of kindness. He also felt better very quickly when he realized that Norton was there to help him.
“When I picked him up and carried him to the animal control truck, he was very happy. I could feel his tail wagging against my back. Now that he knows he’s safe, “She told The Dodo that.
After the puppy’s scary ordeal, Norton made sure he could get as healthy as possible. Before she gave him to Brookhaven Animal Rescue League, she gave him a shot and took out the worms. The no-kill shelter found him a foster home quickly. As of July 8, he was still living there.
Norton says this isn’t the worst case of abandonment she’s ever seen, but she still wants justice for the dog whose owners just left him. She is sure that someone will recognize the chair or the dog from the pictures posted online.
She said, “I’m hoping that someone will put two and two together and send me a message so I can find out who did this.”
Even though his story started out so sad, Norton’s most recent post says that the dog, who has been named Lazy Boy Gatson, is doing well in his foster home while he waits to be adopted by his forever family.
