Inspiration can surely come from anywhere and at any time. We often believe that only people smarter than ourselves can provide us with inspiration and wisdom.
However, if we pay attention to what young people are doing, we might sometimes learn something from them. The kids may not be wise, but they have a pure heart, which is what the world desperately needs.
A girl named Liberty Miller is likely to be one of those from whom the wiser and older can learn.
Liberty celebrated her birthday in 2016 in the most unforgettable way possible. It was with a puppy that had been rescued from a puppy mill. He had mange on his body and was having leg troubles. A breeder surrendered the dog to the Lancaster County SPCA in Pennsylvania, and he was given the name “Libre.”
Liberty chose to decline any gifts for her forthcoming birthday after hearing about the puppy. Instead, she would ask her friends and relatives to donate to Libre in order for it to continue to exist.
Liberty sent $250 to the vets at the Dillsburg Veterinary Center, where Libre was being treated, after her birthday party. The veterinarians were brought to tears by Liberty’s devotion to a puppy she had never met before.
One of the vets who worked on Libre, Dr. Pryor, said in an interview that he had never met Liberty before she came through their doors, but that he was quite proud of her. Dr. Pryor was so committed to saving Libre that he took the dog home with him so he could administer medical care to the animal every three hours.
The story of Liberty and Libre had become so well-known that the dog had become something of an internet celebrity. On Facebook, there were even protest groups founded against Libre’s breeders. What matters now though is that Libre has regained his health and has found his forever family.
