Dogs’ instincts are extraordinary. They’re not only able to sense if their humans are in danger. They can also determine if their fellow animals are in trouble.
A Golden Retriever named Macy found herself trapped underneath the frozen ground. But thanks to a passing Labrador Retriever named Wrigley, she was immediately rescued.
Here’s Macy and Wrigley’s awesome story:
The incident at the park
Macy vanished while she was walking with her owner at Marilla Park in Streator, Illinois. According to one of Macy’s rescuers, the ground where the dog was standing suddenly collapsed.
The rescuers looked for Macy to no avail. They even used a drone to find her, but there were no traces of her.
But things looked up the next day. Before seven in the morning, Wrigley and his owner were taking a stroll in the same park. The dog ventured into an area and decided to stay there. Apparently, the said area was Macy’s actual location.
Wrigley barked and whined, eventually letting his owner that he found Macy.
Thankfully, Macy’s all right
The Streator Fire Department immediately sprang into action after receiving a call about Macy’s whereabouts. The rescuing team determined that Macy was about four or five feet beneath ground. While it was quite shallow, the pup was bogged down in a thick layer of mud.
To save Macy, the rescuers placed a ladder into the hole to get the dog to climb up. But since Macy had some leg and hip issues, she wasn’t able to do that.
Fred McClellan, the fire department’s captain, decided to go down into the pit. He then secured Macy on a leash.
McClellan went back up and started pulling the dog out of the hole. But the ground beneath him suddenly collapsed. Thankfully, he was able to transfer the leash to his fellow rescuer named Tim Redd. Then, Redd started pulling Macy out with the help of Wrigley’s owner.
Once out of the hole, Macy immediately greeted a woman who was supposedly her owner. A veterinary check-up revealed that she was fine.
