U.S. Air Force veteran Jerry Murray just arrived home when he saw a backpack inside the bed of his pickup truck. Then suddenly, a little head poked out of the bag’s zipper. He was stunned to see a small puppy stuffed inside the backpack along with shredded strips of newspaper.
It was an exceptionally scorching exceptionally hot day in Tampa, Florida, and the pup looked weak as he really struggled to crawl out of the bag. Jerry didn’t know how long the young dog was in his vehicle, but he was sure that the dog was there during his long drive home. It was likely that the puppy was dehydrated and could be suffering from heatstroke.
The veteran cringed when he realized that whoever did that to him deliberately tried to kill the small dog.
Out of the hot sun
Jerry quickly picked the puppy up and brought him inside his house. When he placed him on his living room floor, the dog just sat there, thirsty and scared. He didn’t want to traumatize the little pooch, so he left him alone after giving him some water and food.
When the kind dude came back after half an hour, the puppy was more relaxed, and he even started to slowly wag his tail. For several days, the dog stayed with him until he felt much better.
Up for adoption
Although Jerry has grown to love the puppy, now named Zeus, he couldn’t adopt him. He and his wife already had three rescue dogs and adding a fourth was not possible. So he turned the puppy over to the Second Chance Friends Rescue Group.
The nonprofit organization based in Plant City is now taking care of Zeus and has put him up for adoption. His future is looking much brighter. The pup was fortunate that he was found in time, and by a good person too.
