It is easier to endure difficult times when you have someone you care about to lean on. For two rescued dogs named Pasta and Pepsi, this statement could not be more accurate. After being abandoned in an unfamiliar environment, the two canines physically leaned on one another for warmth and comfort.
“The neighbors told me that they would literally lay on top of each other at night to sleep,” Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, told The Dodo.
Five days after the initial sighting of the two puppies in the neighborhood, Hall was notified about them. According to locals, the dogs waited huddled together on the corner of the street where they were apparently dumped.
“I decided, ‘OK, I’m just gonna go, but there’s no way these dogs are still there,’” Hall said. “[But] I pulled up and there they were, waiting.”
As soon as she found them, Hall observed that both dogs were extremely matted and fearful. Although she was able to capture one of the dogs swiftly, the second dog required considerably more time.
“I’ll stay all night if I have to,” Hall said, “and I’ll never leave one behind if there’s two.”
Hall placed the first dog in a crate and then placed the cage just behind the humane trap in order to lure the second dog into the trap. This worked, and two hours after the first dog was rescued, Hall successfully captured the second one as well.
When Hall began transporting the two dogs home in separate crates, she quickly observed that the canines were unhappy by their separation.
“They were trying to get to each other,” Hall said. “I could just tell that they needed each other.”
So, Hall stopped the car, took the dogs out of their crates, and put them all on the front seat together. As soon as Pasta and Pepsi were back together, they curled up on top of each other, just like they had done while waiting for their owners on the corner, according to the neighbors.
“You can’t even imagine the wagging of the tails when I was getting them out,” Hall said. “They couldn’t get to each other fast enough.”
Because Pasta and Pepsi are so close, they have not been split up during the recovery process. They are getting treatment for their illnesses at the same vet, and when they are better, they will go into foster care together.
After being in foster care, the two will be adopted together into a home where they can continue to cuddle, but this time with the love they deserve.
