A man in Colombia put his life at risk to save a dog from certain death. This amazing act of bravery was all caught on camera.
Diego Andrés Dávila Jiménez was at home in his Bogota apartment on the 13th floor when he got a call about an emergency that was about to happen. It turned out that Luna, the dog of his next-door neighbor, had slipped stuck between the railings of her balcony and was about to fall. She was only hanging by her hips and back legs.
At the same time, a crowd had gathered on the ground to watch in horror.
“I hurried to tell my neighbor, but she wasn’t home,” Jimenez told The Dodo. “So I decided to act.”
Since he couldn’t get there from his own apartment, Jimenez asked the people in an apartment downstairs if he could help from there.
He tried to push Luna to safety with a broom at first, but when that didn’t work, he did the unthinkable and started climbing.
“People on the ground were screaming. They had a mattress out just in case,” said Jimenez. “The truth is, I did not think about the dire consequences. I did not look down.”
Video from the rescue shows just how dangerous it was. Lucky for Luna, he got there just in time to pull her to safety.
“When I had Luna in my hands and looked down, a thousand thoughts flew through my mind,” said Jimenez. “My girlfriend was a little upset, yelling at me, ‘You stay there! Do not climb back down!'”
So, he waited for Luna’s owner to come home for about an hour: “She was in tears. She is very grateful because she just adores that dog.”
Jimenez should know since he has his own dog.
After a video of Jimenez’s selfless act to save Luna was shared on social media, a lot of people praised him for it. But, he says, there was one person who wasn’t so happy about his bravery: “I received a lot of scolding from my mother.”
