You may have this prevailing impression that visually impaired people can’t live their lives to the fullest. After all, it’s hard for them to navigate the world around them. However, everything you know about how blind people live their lives could be wrong.
Blind people always have a shot at a fulfilled life. And their chances even get better when they have a guide dog by their side.
In this story, you’ll see how a Labrador Retriever called O’Hara changed the life of a blind woman named Belle Savannah for the better.
What Savannah is going through
Savannah is suffering from a condition cold Stargardt disease. The said illness happens when fatty substances form on the macula, the part of the eyes that gives people a clear vision. As a result, Savannah has lost a great deal of her eyesight.
Savannah’s condition kept her from seeing the defined outlines of people and objects. And during nighttime, she could no longer see.
With that, Savanah’s doctor suggested that she looked for a smart dog. That pup would serve as her guide, helping her move around and complete her daily tasks.
Savannah meets O’Hara
Savannah met O’Hara when she was looking for a potential guide dog. She instantly knew that O’Hara was the dog for her. The day after meeting her, she immediately cuddled with the Labrador Retriever on the floor. It was evident that they were in love with each other.
Despite Savannah’s condition, she is set to graduate from college, thanks to O’Hara’s help. Savannah shared that her guide dog not only helped her navigate her world. The sweet pup also helped her appreciate who she is.
Savannah explained that with O’Hara, she didn’t have to be afraid of her disability. And while she’s blind, her dog made her realize that her disability doesn’t define her life.
She added that O’Hara found happiness in helping her.
