Unlike cats, when left alone in the wild, dogs are not known to be survivalists. Numerous breeds rely on humans for grooming, feeding, sheltering, and, most importantly, affection.
However, there are also extraordinary examples of pups who beat all odds and made it out there on their own.
Sky Sanctuary Rescuers located and rescued one of these pups.
The rescuers came across the horse carcass while hunting for a lost dog in the Tonto National Forest. It was being fed by a dog, but not what they were looking for.
They quickly sprang into action, collaborating to return her to the refuge safely.
They knew she was a survivor since she had survived for at least two or three months by feasting on the dead horse. They discovered no microchip, which meant that the owner could not be tracked or contacted.
Although the dog is apprehensive, he is generally healthy and intrigued by humans. The rescuers could tell she was once a family member: her wagging tail and occasional love licks were indicators of her history.
They are now striving to socialize her to place her in a loving home soon!
Unfortunately, the first dog that rescuers went out to locate is still missing, but they remain hopeful that they will be able to reunite him with his family soon.
