Eight fire dogs have been added to a Florida fire station that previously had none.
They had never had their own fire dog until one showed up at Apopka Station 5 and provided them with more than they bargained for.
Lt. Renee Beasley of the Apopka Fire Department told Fox6Now, “And so I went outside and saw her, and she was pregnant.”
To help out with the delivery of eight puppies from a pregnant dog, paramedic Beasley took on the role of a canine nurse.
“Even though she was pregnant with her belly, she was extremely underweight. She also had about nine to 12 nails in her stomach, probably from ravaging for food,” said Beasley.
Lucky for Beasley, seven of the eight puppies made it, and he immediately set to work saving Lady’s life.
When Apopka Station 5’s paramedics had to leave to save human lives, they took turns being puppy dads. They spread the word about their new pack on social media, and the helpers received an outpouring of support from the public.
There has been an outpouring of support from the community, which has been “amazing,” according to Beasley.
There is currently a waiting list of potential adopters since people have offered to fund the costs of vet care and food.
“Lady is going to end up staying with us. We’ve become very bonded with her,” said Beasley.
