Haatchi is an Anatolian Shepherd that went through a horrible experience. He was a stray dog that was severely beaten and bludgeoned on the head by a cruel and heartless person. When he was unconscious, the dog was placed on a railroad track to die. A train ran him over, but it did not kill him.
The dog was severely injured though. He was able to wobble away and was rescued shortly after by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). The veterinarians had no other choice but to amputate one of his legs and tail.
Instant friendship
Six weeks after his surgery, a loving family from Basingstoke adopted the three-legged pooch. The Howkins family has a young boy named Owen who had a very rare genetic condition called Schwartz-Jampel syndrome. Only 40 people have been diagnosed with this condition. The young boy’s muscles frequently contract, which causes a lot of pain.
The boy’s parents wanted to find him a companion, and they decided that a dog would be the best option. Owen was always afraid of strangers and didn’t like making friends. A dog would remove the awkwardness of building a relationship.
When they took Haatchi home, the friendly pooch immediately approached Owen and placed his head on his lap. They instantly made a connection, and their friendship was cemented.
Confidence
Owen became more outgoing and open with his new friend by his side. He seemed to have developed confidence. Previously, the young boy hated going out because people would stare at him. But since Haatchi needs to be taken for walks, Owen gladly accompanied his pet.
Inside the house, the two were constantly together. Haatchi can sense when Owen has his attacks and would comfort the boy when it happens. Owen’s parents could clearly see that the dog was making their son’s life significantly better. They are so pleased that their son has finally found a friend, and he is happier than ever.
