It’s sad that many dogs worldwide don’t get the love they want and deserve. Whether they were born as strays or were left behind later in life, dog shelters all over the country are full of adorable dogs still looking for their forever home.
But the internet has gone crazy over a dog with a unique trait. Rush, a pit bull, had been turned down by potential owners over and over again his whole life. Rush didn’t want to give up on finding a family, so he taught himself a very clever trick to convince people to give him a chance.
Rush was staying at the SICSA Pet Adoption Center. He had not had an easy life, that was for sure. Rush had been homeless since he was born, but his calm and loving personality made volunteers think he would be a great candidate for adoption.
But there was something that made it hard for Rush to get adopted. Rush is a pitbull, a type of dog with a bad reputation for being aggressive. This can make people not want to adopt him. Even though Rush was anything but aggressive, the center kept getting turned down by owners.
Rush didn’t give up on himself, though. He even taught himself a new trick to show potential owners that he was the right dog for them. Rush taught himself, which is pretty amazing, how to make his own bed so that his cage would look as nice as possible for his next owner to see.
The center quickly learned Rush’s great trick and decided to tell the whole world about it. They took a cute video of Rush making his bed and shared it on social media to help him find a permanent home. Lucky for them, their plan worked.
The video was seen by a family, who fell in love with the dog. “The family had seen the video, came and met Rush, and fell in love,” Nora Vondrell, executive director of the center, told ABC News. “There are a lot of negative stereotypes about the American pit bull. If we were able to highlight the cute cuddly points of Rush, then we can help people look beyond the pit bull label.”
“They said Rush is just a wonderful dog and they’re very much in love with him,” she went on. “The message we are saying now [is] there are hundreds of thousands of homeless animals in your community. We are trying to get past all kinds of labels. People believe shelter and rescue animals are misbehaved, unwanted or have diseases. The reality is they are wonderful and healthy. There are lots of Rushes out there!”
