COVID-19 is still a threat, despite the creation and distribution of vaccines, especially in most third-world countries like the Philippines. Apart from the virus, these countries suffer a slew of other issues, including the need for more COVID-19 facilities.
Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo has been working constantly, risking her life in the process, in order to handle every possible problem presented to the Philippines by COVID-19. In March, a year after the country was placed under a countrywide lockdown, the Philippines saw a spike in COVID-19 cases.
Robredo’s personal circle, however, was not immune to the infection. Robredo announced a few weeks after the surge that one of her security officers had tested positive for COVID-19. Robredo then put everything on hold and went into quarantine.
Apart from the mental anguish of waiting for the results of a swab test, most persons who are being monitored for the disease face the loneliness that comes with isolation. Robredo, who is known for her close ties with her daughters, found herself alone for a few days.
Robredo was fortunate that she just had to spend a little more than a week in isolation rather than two full weeks. Robredo received an update on the seventh day of her isolation, informing her that her swab test result was negative.
Robredo stepped out of her room to rejoice as soon as she received her results. She was not, however, ecstatic about the test result. The day the results were released, it turned out, was also the birthday of their family dog, Rocco.
Even if the negative swab result was a cause for joy, Robredo did not spoil the fun for her pet pug. Instead, she simply celebrated Rocco’s birthday and reconnected with her family (and their cat) after an eight-day absence.
