As you are aware, dogs help us in every way. In addition to offering company, they assist those in need and sometimes undertake extraordinary tasks that make the world a better place.
Meet Sarge, a nine-year-old German Shepherd who adores providing assistance to those in need. When he was a puppy, Sarge was unfriendly and somewhat grumpy. However, all that changed when his mother, Cheryl Stephen, brought Buckwheat home.
The fawn was discovered in the middle of the road. He may have been abandoned by his mother, and if not for Sarge’s mother, he likely would not have survived. It is uncertain what happened to the mother deer, but with Cheryl’s assistance, the baby deer found a safe spot to recover.
“Something clicked in Sarge and he took to Buckwheat instantly,” Cheryl Stephen said. “He wanted to be involved with every aspect of Buckwheat’s care. He took on the role of being Buckwheat’s guardian. None of the other dogs were allowed near the baby.”
When Buckwheat regained his health, he was returned to the wild. Since then, Sarge is responsible for the care of orphaned and injured wild fawns. No matter what occurs, he is always glad to fulfill his work and ensures that he showers poor creatures with affection.
“When I walk in the door carrying a fawn, Sarge springs into action. He wants to check them over and he will frantically sniff and nose around to determine their condition,” Stephen said. “The fawns are drawn to Sarge and feel safe in his presence. Sarge won’t leave their side.”
“It is my hope that these pictures will help others see just how loving and affectionate deer are. They have a soul, just like us humans,” Stephen said. “If a dog can love and care for deer, people can, too.”
His family is really proud of him because he is a magnificent dog. If you’re a fan of Sarge, you can follow him on Instagram for updates on his daily life caring for injured and orphaned animals.
